After writing a research paper on electric vehicles, I discovered that it was possible to convert a small truck to an EV without investing too much money. Including the cost of the truck, my dad and I were able to get the truck rolling under electric power for ~$7,700. We applied for a rebate through the Illinois Green Fleets program (sponsored by the Illinois EPA) and received $4,000 back. So for about $3,700, my dad and I built an electric vehicle with about 35 mile range and a top speed of 80 mph. For more details on the conversion, check out our EV album entry.
